Do you really think that there's only one person out there for you, in this HUUUGE world of over 6 billion people, and that if you don't happen to be born in the same country or serendipitously find each other along the way, you're doomed to a life of lonliness and bad relationships?

Or do you think that you can have that "soulmate" connection with more than one person throughout your life, and that platonic friends can also qualify as soulmates?

I think you can detect my biases on this issue, but I am really curious to know what people think.

Yes and no.

Our souls change as we do, we are not constant. There might be an infinite number of changes to our soul throughout our lives so there may not be just one soulmate.

Once you've met that match at the right time you'll know and then your souls will grow together.

Well of course not! Some people have more than one good relationship in their life if they don't serendipitously find their soulmate. Some people have better capacity for finding and nurturing good relationships. I don't. I also think the soulmate idea is generally pessimistic with a tiny core of false hope.

I truly believe that we all have a soul mate. Most of us don't take the time to find them. We get caught up in the idea of find your mate at college so you don't end up an old maid and don't ever look out beyond those confinements. And yes, we can marry someone else and make it work, but i think if we look deeply into ourselves, that we will see that we indeed missed out on something much better. But who wants to ask the question and hear the truth like that? If we looked for the soul mate, there would not be the high divorce rate. And as for this big old world hiding your mate? Well, if you take the time to look, it will happen, just maybe not when you want it to, but you just have to have faith and perseverance.

I think that you do have one soulmate. I think that you may not meet up with that person if you don't follow your optimum path. I think that you may just settle for the next best thing, but that doesn't mean it's a terrible relationship. You might just never experience the connection of a true soul mate. I would like to believe this anyway. I will let you know someday. Still lookin'!

The odds are that there are more than one. Most of us however settle for partners that aren't even close. They're not bad just not a proper fit.
