First of all, you need to see your doctor and find out WHY your legs are cramping. There could be a serious problem that doesn't have a simple answer. Yes, it could be you are lacking potassium, but , Why? Are you taking a diurietic?. Is there some other problem that is causing the lack of potassium?..There are many other reasons for leg cramps and each of them may have different causes. The reasons can range from circulatory problems to neurological problems to diabetes.Doesn't it make sense to first let the doc check you out? You need to have a thorough examination to determine the reason for this before you go using 'over the counter, herbal, or grandma cures'. Once you've seen your doctor, he will determine the the best treatment.

They are usually (but not always) caused by low potassium. Bananas are a great source of this and should be beneficial.
They are in fact so good that some of our Dr's prescribe them on the ward!!! (silly boys, most of the patients ask if they can just have a tablet instead!!!)
The other common drug we use for leg cramps with people is Quinine, but this is a prescription drug.
Try the Bananas, or and a multivitamin for a week if it doesn't help go see your Dr.

The suggestion of iron supplements and vitamins is good. Also, many charlie-horse type leg cramps are caused by potassium deficiencies, so beyond taking a multivitamin, try eating a banana before going to bed.

Cramps are caused by a lack of potassium.
Check your diet for your consumption of bannanas. At least one every two days.
But also you could try drinking indian tonic water, it has muscle relaxing abilities.

I used to have that problem and my doctor told me to take iron supplements. It's really helped me and I rarely have trouble anymore.
