I don't mean Ruth or Christy Mathewson on an old news reel. I mean either at the ballpark or on television either for a single season or a career.

The greatest player I ever saw was Eric Davis in his prime. He absolutely could do it all. He just couldn't hold up. I saw him in a game at Fulton County in the late 1980's.

The best I've seen on TV was Bonds or Griffey. Bonds, before he took steroids or didn't, was already a HOF player. In the early 1990's, he could have easily been the MVP three seasons in a row.

Ryan was the best pitcher to watch during my lifetime, but he rates around 15th-20th as a pitcher. Maddux, Seaver, Clemens, Carlton, Jenkins, Johnson, Pedro, and a few others were better.

I met Ryan once. He is the nicest celeb I have ever met. Wore a button down cowboy shirt, Wranglers, and boots. Spent 30 minutes with my brother, who has cerebral palsy.

Pitcher is Mariano Rivera and Hitter Reggie Jackson. Of course there are so many other great player I have seen but those two stick out. I do tend to lean toward Yankee players which is obvious. Ron Guidry was great also and so was Nolan Ryan and Roger Clemens.

Watching Pedro Martinez during the 1999 All-Star game was incredible, never seen such a dominating performance (too bad that hurt his career).

Best hitter, Ted Williams. I never actually got to see him play, but I've watched plenty of old video from his days. Williams had the best eye and bat control of anybody who's ever played the game. Period.

I'll limit myself to live games. Greatest pitcher: Tom Seaver. He had it all. Greatest hitter: so many to choose from...I will go with Willie Mays as Mickey Mantle was already on the downward side of his career when I saw him. (Also saw Roberto Clemente, Hank Aaron and Pete Rose, not to mention the king of one-base hits, Ichiro Suzuki. And many other great pitchers, too.)

Randy Johnson.
I was sitting behind home plate for an Arizona game against the Montreal Expos in Montreal. He struck something like 13 or 14 batters. He was simply over whelming.
That was the year before Montreal was moved.

I would say best pitcher would be Tug McGraw on old tapes, or right now Curt Schilling.Best hitter I would have to say to the dismay of others because this is my typical answer, David Ortiz.
