It's not inauspicious as what people said.
In folk's believe, during the 7th month or so-called the Ghostly Month, all spirits are being released out for a month's break. During this month, all spirits are able to wandered around freely (which are given permissions to do so).
So during this month, all spirits will be able to enter any home freely without obstrictions.
So while you are doing renovation, some of the Spirits might be around and so. During the works, some spirits might get "hurt", so they might leave behind some "negative energy" in the house, which folks believe that this will somehow bring bad-lucks in the future.
So as to prevent such things from happening, many people dont engaged in renovating during the month.
Masters have made clarification that, even during the 7th Month, there are still Auspicious dates for certain ceremonies to be carried out. So no worries.
All the best :P

no, it's suppose to be auspicious, at least to the buddhists, who celebrated filial piety during this month, but then taoist has a believe it is auspicious as this is the month where the hell gates open and if u cause any disturbances to these spirits from hell, they might just decide to get back at you ... BOO !! so guess it's just a different religious point of view here.
