I TOOK BIRTH CONTROL FOREVER, ORTHO NOVUNM, THE HIGHEST DOSE, WITH NO PROBLEMS. I HAD BAD ACNE BEFORE I STARTED THE PILL AND THE ORTHO CLEARED IT UP. THEN MY DOC DECIDED TO HAVE ME TRY TRICYCLENE AND I ENDED UP WITH A MISERABLE CASE OF ACNE. I USED ANTIBIOTICS UNTIL I CHANGED DOCS AND GOT BACK ON THE OTHER PILL. HAD GREAT LUCK WITH THE PILL BEFORE AND AFTER THAT. I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE HORMONES, TOO. SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO JUST EXPERIMENT UNTIL YOU FIND ONE THAT WORKS FOR YOU. AND ITS GOOD TO BE VERY PRO-ACTIVE WHEN THE DOC DECIDES THINGS LIKE THAT FOR YOU. ASK A LOT OF QUESTIONS AND DON'T BLINDLY GO ALONG WITH EVERYTHING UNTIL YOU GET A GOOD EXPLANATION. IT IS YOUR BODY... IF YOU FIND OUT ITS NOT THE PILL SEE A DERMATOLOGIST, THEY ARE GOOD AT HELPING THERE.. I HAVE ROSATIA (SP?) AND TAKE ANTIBIOTICS FOR THAT, TOO.

Actually, most birth control pills have been known to decrease acne. In many ads for birth control pills, this happy side effect is noted. I'm sure it depends on the type of birth control pill used, but like I said, most of them help to make acne go away. Research the particular brand you use on the internet and look at its side effects. If acne or sensitive skin or oily skin is one of them, there's your answer.

Yes, birth control with higher hormone levels can cause acne. I took a higher dose BCP and ended up breaking out horribly. They make low dose formulations that will give you less of a chance of causing breakouts. Talk to your doctor because there are so many new types of birth control. I cleared up pretty quickly after switching.

Yes, your hormones are all out of wack. Acne has a lot to do with hormone fluctuation. It could clear up once you've gotten use to the pill or it could stay the same depending on how high of strength the hormone is in your body. Ever notice that you breakout on you monthly cycle? It's because your hormones are fluctuating. That is also why teenagers breakout so much because they have excess androgens (sex hormone) in there body. If it doesn't clear up in a month, I would go back to the doctor b/c it probably is to high a strength for you.

While it took little less than two months for me to really see a difference, my acne, blackheads and whole lot of other skin problems I had such as eczema had completely cleared! It was totally amazing...

I use the Miracle Set (combination to oily) by Mary Kay. The set will give you younger looking skin, fewer lines, improved firmness, and even skin tone. It's very gentle and will not irritate your face. http://www.marykay.com/adina_k/skincare/antiaging/miracleset_combinationtooily/default.aspx

Be sure to finish your daily skin care routine with a foundation to protect against the elements, and to help your skin look smooth and blemish-free. You can also use a concealer underneath your foundation. Mary Kay's foundations come in 20 different shades and provide stay-true, stay-put color, and controls excess oil for up to eight hours! http://www.marykay.com/adina_k/color/foundations/mediumcoveragefoundation/default.aspx

You can also throw in the Blemish Control Toner 3, which is an acne medication that leaves your skin free of excess oil. http://www.marykay.com/adina_k/skincare/classicbasicskincare/10106500/10106500/default.aspx

The last thing is the Acne Treatment Gel. It will dry and clear blemishes, and allows skin to heal without irritation.

Just be sure to always properly moisturize, even while breaking out. If you don't, your skin will start to produce extra oils to compensate and you'll just break out more.

Hmmm, I think so but don't quote me on that. Some BCP can cause melasma, I know that for sure.
