My best guess is that when the plenets were forming, some areas had more dust and gas that could be huddled together. One these came together, hey had more mass and therefore gravity so they could get bigger. Also, some planets are more dense (like Mercury as opposed to Saturn). Denser planets tend to be smaller.

They are different sizes, because of their location in the solar system when the planets were initially forming.

Planets such as Saturn and Jupiter, are much larger, but are made of different materials; in this case, mostly gas. These planets are actually less dense compared to Earth.

So there was different amounts of different materials, and different gravitational fields in the space where the planets were formed, thus resulting in different sizes.

The short answer is: We don't know. The planets grew from accretion of material surrounding the early sun, but we don't have good mathematical models of this process. It is possible that much material that was closest to the sun's core was blown away from it (or sucked into it) when the sun began to shine, which would explain why the inner planets are so much smaller than the outer ones. But we have little good data on which to construct models for computational purposes.

Just like nature itself. She made us all unique. We are not all the same size, neither are trees, or stars, so why should the planets. be any different.

Because thats the way God made and wanted them to be. JEEZE!!!!

take things as they are and learn to accpect them. Thats the the way it was meant to be.
If everything was the same size and people were all the same, Planets, ect, ect. It would be pretty boring now would'nt???

Because (fill in your favorite deity here) forgot to bring his (or her) cookie cutter on the "planet" day.

Yes, Sheesh is a good response.

nothing and I mean nothing known to man is exactly the same, even if they appear alike that is the law of "Ever Changing Balance" in science
Also, the gravitational forces begun at different times making the first bigger
