The fastest land animal is the cheater. However, the fastest animal is a bird. The peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus) is without a doubt the fastest animal on earth. It has been clocked in diving speeds of up to 90 meters per second and is quite possibly the most efficient of all predators.
The Peregrine Falcon is the fastest creature on the planet in its hunting method, the stoop, in which it soars to a great height, then free falls at speeds in excess of 420 km/h (260mph) into either wing of its prey, as not to harm itself on impact. Although not self propelled speeds, due to the fact that the falcon gathers the momentum and controls its dive, capture (if any) and landing in its own right, technically there is no faster animal.

Well pound for pound, it is probably the tiger beetle or the cockroach... In relation to body length and if they were the size of a rotweiler, they would run around 700 mph!
Nothing beats that!
