I have an adorable 100% rayon dress that I machine washed (cold/gentle), and it shrank. Due to some alterations, the care tag was removed--I'm assuming it said Dry Clean Only, but it's too late now. Is there any way to reverse the shrinkage caused to an item that was washed when it should have been dry cleaned? Any advice is much appreciated! Thanks.

probably not. BUT, you can try.

People used to have to lay out sweaters, and stretch them back into shape/size after washing them. They used screens, that looked like window screens, about 3 feet, by 3 feet. and stretched and pinned the wet sweater to the screen in the right size/shape. then let it air dry.

You can try that, but no guarantees.

is any part of it still the right size? you could maybe rescue a blouse or skirt from the dress.

Other than that, try to get similar fabric and a similar pattern and make/sew a copy of the dress.

There is no way once a garment shrinkes. Since ur dress is made of rayon that is 100% viscose.
One thing if u wanna to enlarge it then do the follwoing .

1. you dip it in pure water.
2. lay down the dress on a dark palce on a table and fix the length or width u wanna to extend by stretching and giving light tension.

Hope this will help you!!

Take it to your dry cleaner and ask them if they
can resize it. They will rewet it and stretch it
as much as they can into a bigger shape.

You can do this by yourself. I sympathize with you.
I've lost many an adorable dress this way. Some just
won't restretch out.

Maybe you can find the same dress on e-bay!
Good luck!

Depending on the style of the dress, you could simply pull or stretch the dress by hand. Worked for me. Hope it works for you.
