It's part of the dumbing-down of America. Movies, TV and Broadway getting worse also. America is a culture in decline. Music industry is targeted to 11 year old females. They buy the most CD's. Someone once said that there has always been a battle between art and commerce. And lately commerce has beating art's a s s.

Absolutely !
Being an audio engineer, I can tell you this. You no longer need to be able to sing to be a singer. You just have to look good. Record companies are dropping good new talent, to pick up someone mainstream and make a quick buck out of them. You look at idol. Don't know how it is in America but in Australia, the top 6 or more of the loosers get offered recording contracts. That is time and money that isn't being spent on new original talent because record companies are snapping up these loosers to make some instant $$$.
Check out the song "Money Train" by Rollins Band on the "Get Some Go Again" album. It sums up the situation really well.

The music and movie industry as a whole has gone down. The movie industry lately has been dominated by remakes of classic films. Music is not very original. Every theme of every rap song has something to do with sex, love, cars, money, bein gangsta, etc. Very few quality artists are around lately. Rock is now manufactured. Everyone has become studio artists. R&B is not at all soulful but a blend of hip-hop and half-singing. Much like yourself, I prefer the classics of EWF, Al Green, etc.....classic rock like Led Zepellin, Bob Dylan....and the rap of my generation and environment...2Pac, Dr. Dre, etc.

If anything, the quality of music has substantially improved. Singers of today are technically superior and can easily outperform any vocalist of yesteryear. In terms of originality, today's music far exceeds music created in previous decades. Current artists continue to reflect and express the experience of the youth culture in the early 21st century.
Further, it is widely recognised that creativity is only one component of what makes a successful entertainer. Musicians of this era operate in a marketplace where tastes and fashions change rapidly. They target a generation that is the most media savvy audience in human history. Entertainers of today must cultivate the 'total image' if they wish to remain competitive.

Music has definatly gone down hill. Now its all slow stuff and how can people consider rap music, i mean its just rhyming. No one really cares anymore about mind blowing solos or even the music itself, its all about the lyrics. [ Which by the way suck]
I hope music goes back to the good old days.
*leaves for the 80's*

Yea i agree with you completly people have lost the concept of music. Its all about looks and the image, not the sound. So keep listening to Pink Floyd, Gong, Gentle Giant, King Crimson and Led Zeppelin

The music industry markets what sells. Its the style that seems to go downhill, but thats just a generation thing. Because, as funny as it seems, thats what our parents use to say about RnR. Remember when the Beatles were thought to be Devil music?

i believe, for the sake of money, the music industry produces in quantity rather than quality.
sure, we have a few popular bands now, but nobody will ever live up to be real legends like the beatles and elvis, etc

I couldn't agree with you more! I can't even imagine some of the people on record labels today even getting an interview in the past...sigh. There is good stuff out there, it's just underground...here's hoping an awesome new era of music is right around the corner! : )
