i have an 88 chevy corsica that im wanting to bolt the speaker box to the trunk floor of my car. thieves attempted to break into the trunk after getting into the front but couldnt get in, so i i figured i could buy some brackets and some screws and bolt the speaker box to the trunk for extra security. . how hard would it be , what type of bolts or screws should i use, and should i worry about where to bolt it into, such as hitting the gas tank?

you have the right idea. yes, be carefull of the gas tank. i'd duggest that you drill holes all the way through and but bolts through the bracket and body and put nuts on the bolts, the nuts that have a piece of plastic on the inside of them (think they're called "stop nuts"), so that the nut doesn't vibrate off. this is what i did on my 4x4 chevy,, with 8" basspass bass box, pushed by 400 watts. I have doen a LOT of 4x4ing, and the bolts are still on TIGHT.

for my box, i used some old bed-railing (steel L-bracket). i then cut it to fit my box Length x Width, only the top (square) face. then i ran a piece of bracket down each side, bent each bottom end 90 degrees, drilled holes on these for the bolts. then i took my box and bracket-pieces to the welder's shop. cost me like 5 bucks for the welding. (if you'd like diagrams i can make some up quick with windows paint pgm and e mail it to you)

what i would also suggest is putting a layer or two of carpet underneath your box to reduce vibration. also, get galvanized bolts, and you may want to spraypaint the holes you drilled in the body to fight the evil rust monster. if you bracket and bolt properly, the bolts for the body don;t need to be too thick, like 1/4 inch is good. the bolts you can cut down if they're too long.

The gas tank should be more under your rear seat than your trunk but look under there anyways. I wouldnt use brackets or anything on the outside because it can be seen.I drilled through my box and also through the floor of my trunk and bought a couple of long bolts with washers and nylock nuts to bolt it that way. I liked it because it wasnt visible so if someone did try to steal it it would more than likely stump them for a minute
