That's a good question. Because they won as a team. They didn't have their star Nesta, so it was a team effort. Cannavaro, Pirlo, Gattuso and of course Buffon all played awesome. However I felt Luca Toni played good too. He scored against France, but had the goal taken away thanks to a bad offsides call. If you watch the play again you will see that Toni was NOT offsides. He also hit the crossbar on a nice header in the first half in the same game.

Marcello Lippi, the coach; Gianluigi Buffon, the best goalkeeper in the tournament; Fabio Cannavaro, the best defender in the tournament; Andrea Pirlo, smart midfielder; and the whole team, with 11 goals scored by 10 different players.

Fabio Cannavaro for sure! such a great and God-like defense. without him i'm sure italy won't get their victory... imo Cannavaro deserves the best player in WC 2006.
