i actually bought predator and yes i have to agree it was a letdown, definately not in the same league as her earlier books. There wasnt even the same amount of suspense there usually is. I kept reading it thinking it might pick up(and i hate leaving a book unread). Have you read sarah paretsky someone who i've not long discovered

Is he not interior the hot e book? I have given up on Patricia Cornwell i'm afraid. I loved her early books, even if the superb few have lengthy gone heavily downhill. She has replaced her writing type, and by no skill for the more suitable useful. Her characters at the prompt are thoroughly unlikeable and the books revolve round them more suitable than the crimes. If she has were given rid of Marino then it somewhat is yet another huge mistake, he replaced into always by skill of a techniques the superb personality.

I totally agree. I loved her earlier books, but with each one the characters seem to get darker and more miserable. True, life is sometimes that way, but there just doesn't seem to be any happiness at all - it's like Cornwell's saying, Marino needs therapy and that's pretty dismal, so what can I do to Lucy that's even worse? Okay, now Lucy's sick, so how can I top that with Scarpetta?
There's still a decent crime story in there, but it's depressing wading through all that misery to find it.

I totally agree. In spite of the bloodlessness of Scarpetta, I enjoyed the books quite a bit, even though that same lifelessness always puzzled me.
But when she switched to writing in the third person (whatever # it is), I was repelled. Plus the first book where she wrote like that was so dark, I never wanted to pick up another one.

I agree with you, and have not read anything after Blow-Fly. She wrote the books before this in quite a quick succesion and i think this is why they flowed better, she is now leaving too big a gap between books. She seems to have lost her characters somewhere along the way as they don't ring true anymore. It is a shame as she was one of the best. You should try Karin Slaughter. She is quite good with strong characters and good plot line.

I have to agree with you. She has always been one of my favorite authors, but the last two books have left me highly disappointed. I don't know if she is suffering from a case of writer's block, or if perhaps because she is so popular, that she is feeling pressured to churn out books, even if they aren't up to par. I think it is probably a combination of both, but mostly the latter, not the former.

I could not wait for her books to come out and was sooooo disappointed in the last two that I read. I agree with you.
Maybe she will make it back to where she was. Kay Scarpetta is too cool to be mundane!
