The computer... it enables humanity to do so many things, from statistics to fast calculations required for scientific research. Kids can play games on it. Adults can mean their perfect match, state their opinion, and write their thoughts and dreams down.

Anyone can share anything they want, from information to their opinion.

It is so many things to so many people.

The printing press.

It was the precursor to the internet and in its day it had a far larger impact than the Internet had when it came into being, on society.

Writing was important, but before the printing press, books had to be copied manually and that really got us nowhere. The printing press changed the world because information could be multiplied and distributed everywhere and that had an impact on almost all human endeavour.

Would have to be electricity or air travel. Where would we be w/o electricity. Like you could not ask someone to do your homework for you! Imagine what would be different about your house if there were no metal or alloys. Electricity is maybe my first choice. Modern life w/o it would be like the dark ages!
