Hi! I'm from Europe (Romania), and yes, i've heard of him and i've listened some of his songs...i love them! I don't know manny things about Nusrat, but my fav' songs are :
-Afreen Afreen
-Yeh jo halka halka surror
-Sari Sari Raat

I have seen nusrat on dvd and i liked the emotional intensity very much. Similarly, I like rahat's self-titled cd on rick rubin's american recordings. I have a slight preference for the rahat cd, because the songs are better than the dvd I saw.

I have heard and like his work. He is the only singer of Qawwli that I know of. I have heard him perform with Eddie Vedder and on the Dead Man Walking soundtrack. I don't know much else about him. I am sorry to hear that he has died.
