Raccoons can easily become pests. They usually come into populated areas to live off of man's garbage & the pet food we leave outside.
House Cat's were meant to be kept inside. In my city, it is illegal to let your cat off your property without it being on a leach controlled by a human.

Fix whatever is attracting the raccoons. If there are trash cans out there make sure you have locking lids on them. Any food left outside will attract them. That includes pet food if you have outdoor pets. They sell traps you can set up. Put a little cat food as bait and you can relocate the raccoon far away from your property. Rabies is common in raccoons But most of them do not have it. Please don't kill the raccoon. That's not only unnecessary but probably illegal in your town. It's just doing what raccoons do. They don't stalk the streets looking to cause trouble for people or their pets. It just happens sometimes. Hope your cat is going to be OK.

I'm sorry to hear that the raccoon injured your cat. First, for your cat, I hope that you have brought it to a vet to have it's rabies shots boostered. If it has never had rabies shots, it is quite possible that your cat will need to be quarantined for 2 weeks to observe for signs of rabies. Please, please, please get your cat to a vet if you haven't already. You will also want to let your local health department know that your cat was attacked by a raccoon.
As for the raccoon, a quick question. Do you feed your cats outdoors? If you do, one of the simplest ways to "get rid" of the raccoon (i.e. having it stop coming around) is to not feed your pets outdoors. If you do not feed your pets outdoors, you still have options. Unfortunately, they do not fare well for the raccoon.
To permanently get rid of the raccoon, shoot it. If you do not have a gun yourself, you can call your local police department to come and dispatch it. I would suggest if you do take this option to have the raccoon tested for rabies (contact your local health department for information on how to do this). The police will be unable to shoot it in the head as they need to test the brain matter for rabies.

we totally had a racoon invasion in my yard too. best cure:raccoons are nocturnal, keep the yard lights on in most of the are where the cats will roam. They'll avoid most bright lights. Another idea, but a bit of a stretch, blasting really loud music...that would keep the racoons too annoyed to bother your cats. good luck!
