It's a simple answer. Paolo Maldini. No doubt about it. The best defender in the world (which also includes Fabio Cannavaro & Alessandro Nesta as the 3 best defenders in the world). He's an amazing player & a serious person. He doesn't fool around on the field like other players do. He once got a red card, he didn't ask why or yell at the ref.. he just went off. Classy. My pick?? Of course, Paolo Maldini.

Well, I can mention you three players from three different generations. The first Marco Van Basten a great player, a great bomber, but really unfortunate. He retired at the age of 27. The second his Andriy Shevchenko, the second all time bomber of Milan's history, a protagonist in all Milan's victories this years with his goals. But he left. And the third who might become in the future Milan's captain, is Ricardo Kaka'. The player of the second century of Milan's history. Since he was 21 he became a key player in Milan's team and surprised everyone with his talent, his beautiful goals, his capacity to be decisive for Milan even in the most difficult matches

If you are referring to AC Milan, the greatest player in my opinion is Macro Van Basten.
His spectacular strikes, volleys and his strength on the ball made him one of the finest strikers ever known. He was the European Footballer of the Year three times (1988, 1989 and 1992), twice World Player of the Year (1988, 1992) and FIFA World Player of the Year in 1992. He has won many trophies with AC Milan since he joined the club in 1987. However, his career as a footballer ended early due to injury and he left AC Milan in 1995.
Personally, I am glad to see him back in the leading a rejuvenating the Dutch national side to the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

Franco Baresi.
He was voted their player of the century and his club jersey has been retired.
No2: Paolo Maldini. An everlasting great and loyal servant to the club.
No 3: Toss up between Van Basten, Savicevic and Weah.

Simply Paolo Maldini. One of the best players of all time...
And he had to play under his father (in the national team) so that gives an additional point for assertiveness.
