Whenever my baby is crying, if I blow air unto her face, she stops abruptly closes her eyes and mouth and seems to inhale the air, when I stop blowing she starts crying again, so I blow again, and she stops.. and so on.... Could this be bad for the baby?? Sometimes I am even able to make her stop crying by rocking her simultaneously.

Blowing on a baby's face freaks them out and usually will make them angry. There is a reason a baby is crying, hunger, needs diaper change, etc. If your wife/significant other is breastfeeding i do not suggest cereal. You aren't supposed to introduce cereal till they are 3 months and if she plans on breastfeeding its better to wait longer. The reason I say this is because cereal is harder for the baby's belly to break down, it takes longer, and can produce gas and gas pains which makes the baby cry more.

Maybe try co-sleeping to help your newborn. Co-sleeping I found was a lot easier because the baby is right there next to you and has easy access to mom or dad.

Have you brushed your teeth (sorry I couldn't resist). Stop blowing in her face! Get some infant cereal and put it in her bottle (make the nipple hole bigger) . Hold her upright when you feed her so she doesn't gag/choke on it. If she likes it good. If she appears to gag a lot then stop ...shes not ready for cereal yet. Try again in a week or so. I always used the cereal in the jar and put it in the blender (I had a small one) and added formula to it. Its smoother and has a better taste than the dry cereal.

That's a reflex. Don't do that to her - it's not nice. I'm sure you didn't know that or you wouldn't have done it. Instead of startling her, try to figure out why she's crying. Is after a feeding? Did you burp her? Is she wet? Does she have gas? Is she hot? Cold? Ya know, I've found that the best way to get my baby to stop crying is to take him for a walk outside. Give it a try! Let me know if it works :)

Edited: People are encouraging you to give rice cereal. This is NOT OK at your baby's age. Do not do this. Her digestive system is not mature enough to handle anything but breastmilk or formula at this point. You could cause irreversible damage to her (and allergies) if you give her anything but breastmilk or formula before she's ready. I realize you didn't ask how to soothe your baby....

it is a natural instinct for a baby to take a breath of air in when you blow in there face that will stop the crying for a second it willnot harm the baby but in time it will make her madder and cry more if you have fed her and she is still crying try to give her some rice cerial the baby stuff but not to much just 2 or 3 spoon fulls she might want more to fill her belly if that dont work then try this will be hardest on you but try putting in crib and close the door let her cry a bit she might be trying to see if you will come when she does cry also check to see if she has a rash on bottom some babys like to have powder on them also you might want to try to wrap her up in a blanket tight but not so much just enough to make her think she is beaing held my daughter after she was borne was hot we didnt have ac i wraped her up and she was content hot but content i just gave her a bottel of water and off to sleep she went

Please stop doing that, You stopping the baby from taking a breath. Imagine get a gust of wind shot at your face. You know you would loose your breath. If the babies crying , check for a soiled diaper, hungry sometime they just need to be rocked or burped. Seriously please dont blow in the babies face.

Why the hell are you blowing in your baby's face? Not trying to be rude, but that's torture. Try to figure what's wrong with her. When my 1st child was an infant she had colic pretty bad, so we took her for a walk in the stroller or for a car ride, and it usually put her to sleep. I suggest finding out what's wrong with her (i.e. diaper, wants attention, hungry). If nothing works, then ask her doctor. STOP BLOWING IN HER FACE!!!

You shouldn't do that to her while shes crying its best to figure why shes crying for example she hungry or needs to be changed etc. Only blow on face when shes being fed and starts to cough like shes taken in to much milk.

It is not bad for the baby but I would find a different way to get them to stop crying.

From my experince the reason your child stop's crying is because you are causing your child to loose her breath so stop doing that it is not good to constantly punishe the child for crying Please find another way to stop your baby from crying, giving the baby a bath, cuddling your child while singing or perhaps by purchasing a swing or a baby bouncer they are only a few suggestions if you need futher help please call someone to help you.
