There is no real answer to this question but what I have learned of what love is to me and that is the word LOVE itself holds the answer.......

(L)isten: and validate them by hearing and empathizing.
(O)verlook: their minor character flaws as they will overlook yours.
(V)alue: who they are and what they mean to you.
(E)xpress: how you love them not just with words but with actions.

My opinion of love with a partner seems just as you describe it. Love experienced deeply with a partner can grow to feeling caring love for family, friends, community, world, universe - and not just people, but every aspect of creation. Loving one person deeply is a fast-track to experiencing Divine Love, unconditional love. And in communion with the Divine, in communion or unconditional love with all we discover a depth of happiness and joy that is ever there; a never-ending flow of energized warmth. I think that true love is carrying the love of the Divine into practical everyday living.
