Try this. Make a list of the things you did and didn't do that made you feel guilty. Go through it once. Rip up the list, and throw it away. But here's the problem with making lists, if you're a compulsive liar, it is going to take you a while to rid yourself of the guilt. If it is the case that you're a compulsive liar, take your time to unlearn by not lying first to yourself. when you feel ok and good about yourself by not lying to yourself anymore, you'll esaily realize that it's not hard to learn not to lie to other people. Meanwhile, keep making that list. Good enough, yes?

Well- frankly it depends on the Magnitude and REASON for having the guilt in the first place.
For eg. if the guilt is for calling your best friend FAT or UGLY then it can be overcome by just saying SORRY and treating him/her.
However- if the guilt is for causing someone a substantial emotional/physical/financial harm- then its another story!
Personally- I believe that the best way to overcome the guilt is to try to undo the DAMAGE incurred by your action that caused the guilt in the FIRST place.
Also you can do an act of kindness and a good deed- but keep it to yourself! The positive feeling which a good deed gives you will make you feel contended if you keep DONT BRAG ABOUT IT!!
If you go to town with it- it looses its magic and is just another PUBLICITY CAMPAIGN!!

Thank you - someone who admits they still have a conscious and are aware that somethings need to be overcome. Guilt is a hard one though as people can use it to manipulate our behavior. However, guilt is usually a self-induced emotion for a behavior we chose. Make amends for the improper behavior if at all possible and then give it its proper burial. If not, choose a means by which to give it a proper burial so that you can move forward and not stay ensnared by its grip on your emotions. It will only eat at you as long as you allow it too.

Guilt is inactive. To be guilty, you have to sit and let it gnaw away at you.
To overcome guilt, you:
1) Fix the problem, if possible
2) Sincerely apologize, regardless
3) Do something good for others
4) In future, think before you act, and don't do things that will make you feel guilty.

I rarely feel guilt. You have to remedy the situation if you can. If that is not possible, you need to realize in your heart that you are part of one big universal soul and you must be grateful for your part in it no matter how dumb or horrible that part is at this moment.
If you hiding truth then that can manifest as guilt. Correct it.
The past is behind. There is only right now, so concentrate on that. Practice not thinking so much.

Get rid of that guilt, lets say, you hide pot in a cup in your room. Every time your mom comes in to your room you know your going feel that guilt hit you like a brick in the chest.
If that guilt is not there you have nothing to worry about. If you tell your mom you are going to be screawed...so just get rid of it and dont tell who ever it is anything, unless you want trouble.

If you're a very good person, it might be impossible to completely overcome it. That's not a bad trait....just very hard on you. The best way to cope with it is probably to talk about it openly. It really sucks though...

If you are a Catholic go to Confession. Be sincerely sorry for all of the ways you fall short of what God is calling you to be.
Make restitution for any harm you have caused.
Be resolved to avoid doing what you confessed. If by chance you fall again. Repeat the above steps and sincerely try to change whatever it is. Never give up on yourself. God Doesn't give up on you.
God Bless You, ;-)

Know that you are human and we all make mistakes..... say sorry and don't do it again. Try harder next time. I think everyone has guilt from something in their life. I know I do. I just try harder to be a better person every day.......

the Lord Jesus and believe in thy heart that God has raised
Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
