Becasue humans innately fear the unknown, and death is the ultimate unknown. There is literally no one on earth with firsthand knowledge about what it is like after death. Most of us choose to believe that something exists there, regardless of what it is and we also fear the judgement after death. And yeah, humans like to control things and death is completely out of our control.

The biggest fear isn't about what there will be, but the thought of there not being anything at all. Human beings don't like the concept of nothing; that's why you always get "What came before the Big Bang?" questions. We always insist that there must be something, because our minds can't handle the concept of nothingness. When we die, since none of us know what's going to happen, there's a possibility that there will be nothing. We won't exist anymore. We will have no thoughts, no feelings, no emotions. We will be nothing. A thousand times worse than pitch darkness: Nothing.
Boggles your mind, doesn't it? That's where the fear of death comes from.
But on that note, I have a lot of afterlife beliefs myself and I'm very convinced that there will NOT be nothing after death. It has nothing to do with religion, but explaining that would be getting too off-topic.

Yes Every body knows that he/she will die one day, yet every body is afraid of death coz they then knew that they are going to die at that time.
Future dying is better than die now.

because all people are afraid of what they can not know beforehand. I think what we are scared of is not death itself, but the way we die. Another reason would be religion and after life.

I don't fear death...I embrace death, as it is a part of life! As we all are born, so must we all die! It's the part in the middle that causes more pain than the beginning or the end!

Because they're afraid to live life to the fullest.
I don't fear death, but I'm in no rush. I don't believe there is an afterlife, so I have to make my time here count.

GOOD QUESTION! Some who have had near death experiences aren't, who have strong faith are not. but most of us just don't know what waits for us after we pass. it's uncertainty. and unknown. most are afraid of the unknown. But what is this life, you know. I don't know.
