People make the excuse for porn that "it's just masturbation": Then why not just do that to fantasies and pictures of pretty women instead? You'd have to be pretty spoiled, desensitized and jaded to only be able to be turned on by gratuitous porn and not be moved by a fantasy or looking at a pretty girl. Men use to take care of their sexual release that way so what makes you so special? You are no more biologically different then they are.

Yes porn dates to the beginning of time but I said INTERNET porn. Why can't you get turned on by a sexy Bettie Page with a wip in hand instead of totally superfluous graphic sh*t?

Thanks Rico. I'm glad you were able to use logic and reasoning to back up your thoughts, and actually took the time to read what I said.

There's a difference between erotic art in general and "graphic internet porn". And me acknowleding the necessity for masturbation but not porn would not make me a fair levelheaded moderate. You want extremism? Go to the Middle East.

You lack knowledge of the history of pornography. It has existed since man learned how to create art, and has been used for those purposes ever since.

Some people can be happy with their own thoughts, however, some, are unable to be imaginative and create, and need visual or audio aids to get off. To be honest, your question is kind of silly because you are only looking at your question in one context.

Say that you love the Harry potter stories and the movies. Why should you see the Goblet of fire? Don't you have a brain? Cant you create your own little fanfic of your own? You don't need hollywood telling you a store when you make it yourself.

it all boils down to escapeism, or just the want to immerse yourself in a world entirely different than you can't create with your own mind.

But it DOES boil down to biological function. Imagination and fantasy are cognitive skills that have to be nurtured and encouraged in people as they grow, and usually are mostly in children who grew up in a very vivid and encouraging enviroment and they themeselves are intelligent.

Not everyone lives like that. Some people are just simple people leading simple lives and are not the "thinkin' kind" and just wanna get away from the world for a few hours.

Sometimes its a movie, and sometimes it's porn.

And sometimes porn is the only option when you're single. Not everyone can get laid easily, especially men, it's quite an effort doing the courting.

And even if they are in a relationship, it's still a different experience that they want to experience. Women do the same as well.

That isn't really a fair question. Erotic art has been around since the time of the ancients, and for largely the same reason. There isn't a (straight) man alive who wouldn't rather be with a live woman - in fact, we are biologically presdisposed to that. The truth is that eroticsm has never been as commercially available as it is now, so men who are caught up in it don't really know how to respond to that.

The mere fact that eroticsm is as big a business as it is is a testament to how it moves people. Your statement that masturbation is satisfying when performed only to "fantasies and pictures of pretty women" is illogical - if that were the case, there wouldn't be any business in porn, much less a multi-billion dollar business.

Is porn a problem in modern society? It certainly can be. Dependence on porn can lead to social isolation, and all of the problems that that isolation wreaks upon society. Worse, dependence on porn can lead to behaviours that are at best frowned upon by society, and at worst are outright illegal. There are moral and legal consequences for such actions.

But in a truly healthful expression of one's sexuality, there is a place for erotic fantasy. That shouldn't be denied. And such an expression of one's sexuality could include erotic material, and in that capacity such material should not be suppressed or censored, within legal reason. The material itself is not to be blamed. It is the responsibilty of the individual to determine the dividing line, and it is the individual who bears the consequences of not respecting that line.

Because they ARE desensitized to their own images and just pictures of girls. They wanked to those things so long, they need more. They have reached the point that that's what it takes to push them over that brink. As this kind of behavior continues, masturbation also leads to the man not being able to respond to a real woman, because they're so used to the combination of porn and their own hand. It's sad, but in the end, I guess they deserve it for being such sleazeballs in the first place.

Well for starters it because it is there and I know that sounds cliche' but it's true. It's there, a lot of it is free, it's always new people and different things that satisfy all types of desires.

Plus, there is nothing to stop a legal adult from viewing it.

Personal reasons would be,
Not being satisfied in the bedroom.
Not having a partner to do things with.
Not having to beg for it.
Not having to say thank you to your hand or talk to it for an hour before you go to sleep.
Not having to go through an hour of fore play to get your hand in the mood.
Not having to repect your hand in the morning.
Not having your hand on the rag.
Most important of all, your hand never laughs or
says your, #)&(^$*#@_*, done already !

It's all fantasy. And you know it's different strokes for different fokes, how your conditioned. People have different tastes. but your right there are generalizations out there that are being perpetuated and dictating how a woman should act or look to be pleasing to the eye or desirable, acceptable, sexy.
beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
beholder.
