What is INTERPOLARIZATION?

Question

I had a Pre-press/Graphic Design applicaiton for a large-scale print industry give me a questionare, and three of the questions asked something along the lines of "What is the interpolarization of a 300 dpi 8.5 x 11 image?
I had no idea and can only assume I botched the test because they never called me. Do you know?

All i know is that interpolarization is a a blending of diffrent images or layers of images into one, but dont know the computation for it. sorry that was a tough question.
