The Battle of Falkirk (1298) was a major engagement in the Wars of Scottish Independence which took place on 22 July 1298. An English army commanded by Edward I defeated the Scots under William Wallace. Despite his success Edward was unable to complete the subjugation of Scotland because his army had been weakened by the scorched-earth tactics used by Wallace prior to the battle.
