Very thoughtful answer Dude. Many thanks. It's The Constant Gardene" by the way, based on the novel by John LeCarre. I saw it and it was excellent. Syriana sounds like it would be right up my alley. I'll check out some of your links. Thanks again.

A missile disappears in Iran, but the CIA has other problems: the heir to an Emirate gives an oil contract to China, cutting out a US company that promptly fires its immigrant workers and merges with a small firm that has landed a Kazakhstani oil contract. The Department of Justice suspects bribery and hires an outside firm to find a scapegoat. The CIA also needs one when its plot to kill the Emir-apparent fails. Agent Bob Barnes, the fall guy, sorts out the double cross. An American economist parlays the death of his son into a contract to advise the sheik the CIA wants dead. The jobless Pakistanis join a fundamentalist group. All roads start and end in the oil fields.

The name 'Syriana' is a term used by Washington think-tanks to describe a hypothetical re-shaping of the Middle East. The movie seeks to examine real world issues and yet not be preaching or news-like. This has been achieved with the multiple story lines, a lot of surprises, fast pace and witty dialogue. George Clooney is amazing in the role of CIA agent Bob Barns, looks like he put on a lot of weight for the role. Altogether it is stylish, smart and insightful making it intellectually stimulating movie watching. Very satisfying!

This new trend of addressing real issues in Hollywood is certainly a welcome trend. Most movies in this group have these common elements mentioned above. They seem to express a sense of frustration with current political and social issues.

The praise and recognition they are receiving goes to show that it is trend here to stay. I hope we will be watching more movies like these in the coming years. Some other movies that I would recon belong to this trend.

1. Constant Garner (about drug companies)
2. Lord of War (About arms dealers)
3. Crash (about racism)
4. Good Night and Good Luck (about fear tactics)
5. Traffic (about drug trafficking)
