I've tried to keep feeders alive without much luck. I have a feeder tank that I use to breed feeder guppies, but every once in a while I over buy feeders and put the extra in that tank. The feeders dont seem to make it very long. A few weeks tops. I dont know if they are so poorly kept that they are meant just to swallow and or if my water conditions vary greatly from the store's water, but the life expectancy of the feeders, in my experience, seems very short.

Until you put the in with the fish that is going to eat them. Most feeders should be good for at least a year. Why would you need to keep them any longer than that.

i don't know, i have been wondering this myself, but my fish was a feeder fish at the pet store, and i think she is a goldfish. she started out sliver and turned to peachy orange, so i think she's a goldfish. i say "i think" because i've heard goldfish only live 2 or 3 years, and my fish is 8 1/2 . and i don't even take good care of her at all. :-( so if they are well-cared for? probably pretty long, actually. longer than 8, haha. ;-D

Depends on if you are going to use them as feeders or keep them as pets. If you are going to feed them to something and that something is hungry then it will be very short. If you keep them as pets they can live over 20 years if taken care of properly.

I guess that depends on how fast something else feeds on them. Left alone, a couple of years.
