The answer is simple, unfair but simple. Some people can not be trusted to drink when they are young, so they restrict drinking until young folks are 21, but at the same time, when we go to war, which is almost always a mistake, we need the youngest minds and bodies to train so that this young minds and bodies can react to orders and teamwork in a programed fashion like a machine. It gives the unit or team a better change of survival, along with a better chance at being successful in the mission.
Accomplishing the missions is what it is all about. Causalities including death and dismemberment are collateral, and don't sweat the small ****. Oh Well! But to you the soldier, or his family your death is not a small thing.
Sanity says, don't buy the Governments bull shoot.

That's a question for the ages. But seriously I think it is nothing but politics. When I was 18 you could drink and buy alcohol legally. Back in the 1980's. Then they changed it the next year to 21 for everyone not born before 1966. Also I don't like Bush either, but it happened when Reagan was the President. And if I am not mistaken Congress passed that law too. So blame all of them or none, but not those who weren't there.

I agree with you...if you can smoke cigarettes and die for your country at 18, why not be able to drink? The amount of maturity from 18-21 is not that significant, seeing as how I know 28 year old men that still act like they are in high school...that is a very good question and I wish I knew the answer...

The real reason is that the age to join the military used to be 21, they had to move it to 18 in order to get enough military for one of the wars (not sure exact time).
However...
If you make this argument then military personel should be able to show their I.D and get a drink. It wouldn't apply to an 18 year old not going to war to die.

Because the government doesn't actually care about or your freedoms. Especially the Bush administration. Going to war futhers their political agenda, while keeping you from drinking lines their pockets with money from fines for underage drinking, illegal consumption, illegal transportation, and so on. I'm sure some people will say the drinking age is 21 to protect the young from something they may not be ready to handle. I say- so giving them a gun is better?

thoroughly agree. in my opinion, i imagine the ingesting age being 21 is antagonistic to the structure's "equivalent protection" clause. truly an 18 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous citizen has a lot less rights (and is dealt with otherwise) than a 21 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous citizen, even inspite of the actuality that they are certain by skill of an similar duties to their us of a...

Many years ago soldiers were allowed to drink regardless of their age... but some moran decided this was wrong... of course it was while I was in service... it didnt affect me because i was grandfathered in... but even today it still makes me very angry that a young man or woman cannot buy cigarettes until 19 or booze till 21 but can go die for our country at 18... If you find a way to fight this law please let me know and i will help you in any way I can .. may take awhile but it will be worth it for future soldiers. monie99701@yahoo.com

Hey, that's a great question. I suppose you could go to the army. I'm sure they don't have much stipulation on drinking there, with all the stress that soldiers need to eleviate and all. But then you may have your head blown off while trying to enjoy your corona, so I'd just wait until 21.

Because at 18 you'll be taking orders and doing as your told by an older person, your NCO. If we gave you the green light to drink at 18 you wouldn't live to see 21. Besides, you can't tell me you can't get alcohol if you want it.
