Try going to Old Sac. There are a lot of little shops there. Maybe go to the river or Folsom lake since Sacramento is in the middle of a heatwave right now.

My nightlife experiences in Sacramento have been so-so.. Definetely, not a city known for it's entertainment & nightlife.

You can try some of the bars in Old Sac, like Fanny Annes or the irish place (can't remember the name). There is also a very funny comedy club out by Cal Expo called the "Punchline".

Even better, you're only a couple of hours away from SF. Drive into the city. The possibilities there are unlimited.

Have Fun!

A very popular attraction in Sacramento is "old town Sacramento" and right next door, within walking distances, is the Train museum, etc, which is very large, wonderful, a great place to browse the entire area. Plenty of places to have lunch there and spend the better part of the day.

There's always a ton to do in the summer, especially Thursday through Sundays. Things my mom would like (who wants to go "clubbing" with their mom?):
- A play or musical. Fair Oaks Music Theater. the Sacramento Shakespeare Festival, and the Big Idea Theater (Roseville) are probably the cheapest in the $12-15 range.
- Free open-air Concerts in Fair Oaks(Th), Sacramento(F), Rancho Cordova(some Saturdays), Folsom (Fridays), FairyTale Town(W)
- Art. Bunches of openings and galleries in Sac, the Crocker is free Sundays 10am to 1 and Second Saturday Art Walks (all over, but mostly downtown Sac)
- Comedy shows (Laughs Unlimited, Punchline, Scotts Club)
- biking or walking the American River bike trail
- 'quaint' shopping areas like Old Sacramento, Fair Oaks Village, or old Folsom
- guided nature walks at Effie Yew or tours of Davis Arboretum.
- Tons of cultural events and festivals on weekends- I couldn't begin to name them all. Try looking at sacticket.com or the Sacramento News and Review sometimes for bunches of ideas for things to do
- Of course, the State Fair is right around the corner (August 11), but I'm assuming she's coming sooner.
- For a great day trip, you could go take a wine tour in Shenandoah Valley (Plymouth) and then go wander through the towns and gardens of Sutter Creek, Volcano, Jackson which are somewhat cooler in the summer than Sac valley

You can visit the State Capital building and grounds, go to Folsom Lake (or take a drive to Tahoe), take a Riverboat cruise do Old Sacramento, walk along the American River Parkway and of course shop your hearts out! Hopefully she isn't coming in July or August or you girls will be burning up outside!

Have fun together. :-)

I would go to downtown Sac. See the Capitol and the grounds around it. Then go to "Old Sac" along the river. Lots of shops and places to see. Take a water taxi on the river. Also the I-Max theater is currently showing a great film on Greece. Not much cost here. Cherokee Jim

circulate to the Sacramento Zoo and Fairytale city - the two positioned in William Land Park. circulate to previous Sacramento - various exciting shops and issues to make certain, alongside with the Railroad Museum. in the time of the baseball season, take up a River Cats activity at Raley field (basically around the river from previous Sacramento in West Sacramento). circulate to the Crocker artwork Museum.

Unfortunatly Sacramento doesnt have much going on. The roseville galleria mall has a lot of good stores and resturants. You also might consider taking her to downtown and go to IMAX. Just walking around downtown can be interesting.
