I have owned Mac's for a while now and I gotta tell ya that you won't make a bad decision if you choose a Mac for your next computer. Some may argue that if you want a computer for spreadsheets and documents to go for the pc but the truth is that you can find all the major programs that exist for the pc on the Mac, for example Microsoft Office, Adobe software and tons more. In the past software titles on the Mac was an issue but not anymore, you can find software for everything and anything.
Using a Mac is simple and straightforward, for example if you want get rid of a program you simply drag it to the trash can and that's it, you dont look for the uninstaller like on the pc. You can easily connect to the internet and do pretty everything like the commercial says "right out of the box".
Apple's new desktop and laptops have the new Intel processors which is a big improvement to the power pc processors they had before. I think a cool thing that Apple has done with its intel processors, and geared toward those resisting to become Mac users, is that there is something called "Boot Camp" that allows users to install Windows XP onto the Mac, therefore when you start your computer, you have the option of booting into the Mac OS or Windows. The hard-drive is basically partitioned between both systems. Keep in mind that when you install XP on the Mac, you get everything that Windows has to offer including the viruses, spyware, crashes, etc etc etc.
There is nothing more stable and secure than a Mac. The computers are very stylish and they offer loads of features like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, the new models even have Apple web-cam "iSight" built right in. The computers are great, the OS is great, you can always count on getting a great computer when you have the manufacturer making the computer and the operating system all under the same roof.

IBM PC clones will always be the better deal in terms of prices off the bat; However, Apple computers are much more solidly built and better supported since the integration is so tight.
The only question is what you need it for. And if you require the use of any special software for something like work. I'd check at the websites of all the programs you use that you might be concerned about and see if there are either mac versions, or if the files they are saved as are opened universal types, like PDF, DOC, etc etc...
I personally own both, and i love them both equally. But i reccomend that you only buy a mac if you are sure you want one. Don't just buy one if you simply want a computer, you'll be dissapointed no matter what, you have to want the experience to make it worth it. I suggest you go to an apple store and play around with one for a while, if you enjoy it, and are feeling it, then go for the mac.
Otherwise, you can't go wrong with a PC.
Just prepare to be really vigilant with antivirus, firewall, and anti-spyware apps.

mac for graphics, art stuff, designing, photography.
PC for documentation, designing, more compatability with others, downloading from Napster, Launch! Yahoo, other filesharing.
Grew up on PC was used to using the Windows platform (in no way am I an expert) so I found it crashing, "safe mode", MS-DOS mode, were all annoying and finding myself call a technician quite often. I also had to go buy Security software such as McAfee, Norton, etc for basic security.
As with Mac, there isn't a need to buy any of those security software. I find Mac a little bit more straight forward to download programs, less virus attacks, design looks better. The technicians are really great, but as for me, it is a jump from PC to Mac, so just be aware that you will need to spend time getting to know your notebook. Mac isn't perfect when I go to myspace for example, the internet gets really slow. But, that is probably because my computer is a couple years old and I don't have much memory.
Anyway, go with Mac, better looking computer, and the new MacBooks and MacBook Pros I hear are very fast, run on the same Windows Intel Chip and you'll even be able to get the Windows programs. Also, right now until September buy a MacBook and get a free Ipod!
Good Luck

Well this is the age old question Mac or PC. I simply say it will depend. Even though the commercial for Mac will make you think otherwise I will tell you coming from someone who does support that it will depend. If you want something to do designs, video editing, or seamless connection to I-Pod devices and other Mac products then go with the Mac. But if you are on a budget and want something you can have greater compatibility with Office applications and games and so forth then you will want a PC. A Mac will be probably be more stable and run fast but getting the latest game to work with it or do some spreadsheets for work then It will be more difficult. Yes and I state YES they can be done on a Mac but they will be more of a headache. If your simply browsing the Internet and checking email then both will work just fine So then go for the best deal.

I prefer PCs, but that is because I have accumulated tons of programs for the PC over the years. A lot of programs are limited to PCs, but most run only on windows, which has an extremely annoying tendency to screw up every once in a while. If something looking or sounding too good, it crashes. However, PCs can be a lot easier to navigate and have lots of quick, easy-to-learn shortcuts that macs don't have. Macs can be a lot more reliable than PCs, but are more limited than PCs. I don't work on Macs a lot, so that's all that I can say about it. Hope that helps!

EDIT: Vaius, were given some undesirable information for ya. i have been an business gadget programmer and debugger for 30 plus years. In all those years, you DIDNT use a mac to attempt this. The application became and nevertheless is purely too complicated and WONT run on a mac. you may were laughed out the door in case you utilized for my interest with mac in hand. Its no longer all about video games. there is little or no engineering application for a mac. Dont youngster your self. Mac isn't some thing better than an overpriced Fisher value toy.

It depends on what you planning on doing with your laptop. If you are a art student, I would suggest you go with the mac since most art softwares run better on the mac. Otherwise, in my opinion, a pc is a better choice. PC's are faster and more reliable.

MAC--- out of the question
If you are looking for document, spreadshhet.. compatibility.. its okay with Mac.. you can always use Office also there (or other programs)
A Mac can open most of your files with the right software. Most popular applications for Mac and PC use the same file formats, making it simple to exchange documents with coworkers or move existing files from a PC to a Mac.
- Solid, Stable and Reliable UNIX based security technologies(authentication, managing certificates, public and private keys...)
- Stable OS
- Developer possibilities
- Neat graphics & video
- Mac´s new Intel Core Duo
The latest Mac processors put other chips to shame
(you can also run Windows with Boot Camp)
- GUI
- ILife
- Media(iPhoto, GarageBand)
- Fun Stuff ----> widgets
-Web hosting BIG opportunities
But.. you can also prefer Windows...
Windows has pulled it off just by cheap stuff and well planned marketing jobs some time ago having companies across the world hooked up with their poorly innovative products.. but well things are beginning to change with BIG things as THE Linux..
Windows customer´s bait´s always the same.. stuff like messenger nudges, winks...(Live Messenger is full of bugs by the way)... INNOVATION??? SERIOUS WORK??
Vista.. another piece of crap... Microsoft trying to dress Windows in a Mac suit but it just didnt fit!!!
SEE FOR YOURSELF!!
Im into programming and I tell you.. I can use my Mac for almost whatever I like
