There are a number of reasons.

#1 - we are taught since we are small to strive. To be more than we are. To excel and achieve. When you are good at making money, that is what you do.

#2 - we have all heard the stories of the depression and other catastrophes outside individual control that reduces a whole population to poverty - and some of the folks who participated in that instilled a real fear in their children about poverty. When you suffer that kind of stress, it becomes important to stress the need to safe guard against that.

#3 - people want to provide for thier family. Most wealthy people dream of taking care of the next generation - or the next 2. Making life as easy for their children as they wish it had been for themselves.

#4 - because they lost someone dear to an illness that they want to find a cure for.

#5 - they are afraid that by the time they hit retirement, prices will have risen so much that they won't have enough to be adequately taken care of in their old age

#6 - because they are afraid to die, and they think with all the money in the world they can buy medical treatments enough to live forever...etc.

There are plenty of reasons for even the richest people in the world to want to earn more money - and like all the rest of us, they are mostly rooted in fear.

Peace!
