Would it be easy and/or cheap to fix or should I just buy another?

I am having a yard sale tomorrow & just thinking about getting rid of it, would $15 or $20 be a fair price for a parts machine? ( it is only 3 years old & was bought new) ..thanks.

Sounds like the pump. Part is about $50.00. If you are handy you can install it yourself or pay a repairman which would probably cost about $100-200 bucks including part. This site tells you how. m

A 3 year old machine is well worth having it looked at by professional. It may be something stuck in the pump or blockage in a hose. If you need a part your bill would be $150 tops and that is less than half the price of a new one. Since you have not mentioned the brand of the machine I cannot be specific as to what may be the cause. I can tell you that it is not a carbon brush or a timer as others would like you to believe.

Make sure your clothes are evenly distributed around the washer [top loader].
A sensor can sometimes switch off the machine before draining if it is not balanced properly. Also check that the weight is distributed evenly on the floor by each of the four legs. If the machine is running smoothly and without vibration, the above possibilities will probably not be the cause.

Same thing happened with my Maytag which was only 5 years old. The repair guy said it $175 to fix it. I said forget it, no more Maytags for me (my first one lasted 20 years!) and I bought a new (different band.) And I bought an extended warranty this time.
Try selling it at the garage sale, or run an ad in one of those free papers - it's worth it to someone else to fix it. Or use it for parts.

Humming sounds in the middle of the cycle means the carbon brush is getting thinner (almost every machine that uses wiring cyle use carbon brush),the cost of changing approx.$25.
When the machine won't drain the water,it could be:
1.The drain pump needs rewiring,rewiring costs approx.$30
2.The drain pipe blocked, just need servicing.

3years?It's quite strange since usually both of the items needs servicing after 5-7yrs of continous use.It is from the good brand?
Please reconsider to buy the more stronger one,Italian/Swedish/Japanese/Korean branded machine is proofed good.

Try fiddling around with the hose that the water goes out of the washer with. Sometimes if it droops to low, the water won't drain.

It might just be a blocked drain hose. Check that first. I have had this problem when a childs sock became lodged in the pipe just before the pump

if its not draining, its either the pump went out or the timer went out. if the timer goes bad, it won't properly cycle and sticks. it will cost you with labor either way over 125.00 and up. you would be better off selling it and buy a new one with extended full home warranty of both parts and labor.
