It sounds like there is only one role he wants to play and that is as a sadist. Yes, sadism can be dangerous if ground rules are not set and adheared to.

you need to set some ground rules and a safety word or motion to let him know when it is something that is not to your liking and he gets the message that it is not fun anymore.Sometimes role playing can get way out of hand and can become very dangerous and very harmful so before you go playing again I would sit him down and make sure he is clear on what is acceptable and what is not.
