It takes 8 minutes 17 secs for light to travel from the surface of the sun to Earth.
Earth spins at 1000mph but it travels through space at 67000mph.
If you could drive your car straight up you would arrive in space in just over an hour.
The universe contains over 100 billion galaxies.
The fastest a falling raindrop can hit you is 18mph.
If the Sun were the size of a beach ball then Jupiter would be the size of a golf ball and the Earth would be as small as a pea.
Every hour the Universe expands by a billion miles in all directions.

-Sodium is a volatile element that ignites in the presence of oxygen. Chlorine is a poisonous gas that can kill a person in seconds. Mix them and you get sodium chloride, or salt, without which we cannot live.

(gotcha!)
-The star tha is closest to our Sun is Proxima Centaury, which is 4 lightyears away from us. A lightyear is a huge figure if we express it in miles, let alone feet. It's easier to think that if the sun and Proxima were the size of two grains of sand and the sun were in NY, Proxima Centaury would be near Sydney.
-Blood is about 78 percent water.
-Most dust particles in a US house are made from dead skin.

-Astronauts are not allowed to eat beans before they go into space because passing wind in a spacesuit damages them.
-Banging your head against a wall uses 150 calories an hour.

Off the top of my head....
Cold blooded animals tend to get sleepy in colder temperatures, whereas warm blooded animals prefer to be warm.
Some (or maybe all. i can't remember) sea slugs have both male and female genitalia.
The "blind spot" in your eye is actually where the nerves and muscles connect to the back of your eye. Since there are no sensors here, all you see is a black spot.
Sound travels about 4 times faster in water than in air.
Hope those are interesting enough for ya. I'd look up something more interesting, but then I'd feel like I was cheating.

The Wood Frog is the only frog found north of the arctic circle. Wood frogs have the ability to freeze their bodies during winter. In the winter, as much as 35-45% of the frog's body may freeze, and turn to ice. Ice crystals form beneath the skin and become interspersed among the body's skeletal muscles. During the freeze the frog's breathing, blood flow, and heart beat cease. This is possible because of a special kind of natural "antifreeze" thier bodies produce.

Science - optics - rainbows
we see rainbows when there are raindrops or VERY high humidity, like after it has rained. but did you know that to see a rainbow, the sun ( or strongest light source) needs to be at your back?
And that if the light is strong enough, you can see a second rainbow "around" the first?

White sharks eat elephant seals because they are so high in blubber and high energy fat. These sharks and seals live in cold water regions and when the streamlin shark is felt, he is warm and that is why he eats so many fatty seals. Thsi shark may attack a human and bit him, but once he notices there is very little fat, he will leave him alone and swim away.
