I do straight typing at my job and the boss spoke to me alone and said for me to do some "soul searching" over the weekend to give her an answer this Monday. She said she thought I was a fast typist, yet I am not up to speed on what they want as far as getting the work out. Also, I am not happy with my job but stayed becaused it paid my bills.

I need to give her an answer that I am either leaving or try my hardest to work faster and get those reports out in 15 minutes or less - Impossible!

I posted about getting Unemployment Insurance if I was eligable for it being I've been there at the company for close to five months. Will I get it if I leave when I say that I am not going to stay?

I don't know what to do......

Do you feel you are getting treated unfairly? Look around; is there anyone else that does the same job AND are they being treated differently? If so, that's called DISPARATE TREATMENT and it's against the law. Your boss will be familiar with the term because attorneys use it during labor disputes; but don't use it lightly because it will raise the stakes.
Next, is your boss capable of putting out the reports in 15 minutes or less? Tell her you need training because you don't understand how to do 25 minutes of work in 15 minutes. If she has to train you, you will either learn to do it or she will see that it can't be done. Or maybe there are roadblocks she can fix so you can do better.
If you quit, you don't get Unemployment Benefits. All companies pay for unemployment insurance and it's better for the company if you quit rather than having to fire you.
And finally, it's only a job; you'll find another one. Maybe a new job would be better, so look into other jobs and who knows? You might find one you like better and then you'll leave the other mess behind.

If they're not happy with your work, then they must be hinting to you that it's better to just quit than get fired. Or if you want to risk it, you could try typing faster, but then that would probably stress you out though because of the pressure.

But you said you're not happy with the job so that means you probably won't miss it when you quit. It's just the money issue that is the problem. But money, you can get that again, just look for another job. There are tons of job out there.

Remember, there's a reason for everything.

You're being warned that you're in jeopardy of loosing your job if you don't improve your performance. Your boss clearly is OK with your typing speed, but it's the "other stuff" that you're not good with.

The job involves being good at each individual function, so you have to decide for YOURSELF if you want to do a better job or get out while you can.

If you like what you do, and like where you work, then I would tell the boss that you'll try to do better from now on--and actually give it your best efforts.

Your job is on the line here, no doubt about that, so you have to decide if you want to try and do better, or be out of a job. If it was me, I would do whatever I could to improve my performance.

I can't help you on unemployment much. You usually can't get it if you quit your job, but it may depend on your state guidelines.
From a job standpoint, it's always better to be fired. That way you are not viewed as a malcontent who just quits all the time.
And new federal guidelines don't allow an employer to state why you were fired, only verify dates of employment.
Meanwhile, I would start looking for a job. Post your resume on some of the job sites and start looking for other options. It's always easier to get hired while you are still working.

No if you quit you get nothing! Tell them you will try harder and when you fail then they will fire you and you can collect U.I. try and drag it out another month because your compensation is based on the previous 6 months I believe?

Why dont you just look for another job and dont mess with our tax dollars. God I hope they dont start handing it out to people who just leave because they cant perform to standards.
