Questions to ask:
1. Are you trained in child/infant CPR/First Aid?
2. Describe your ideas on discipline.
3. How much experience do you have with young children?
4. What is your best memory from your childhood?

Then make up some scenarios that could possibly happen and see what persons answers are.
Scenarios like, You have asked 2 times to stop kicking the soccer ball in the house. What would you do if they won't stop?
A solicitor is knocking on the door while you were watching the children. What do you do?
Also when you hire a care provider, have them be finger printed at your local police station.

Former Nanny here...give them hypothetical situations...how would you react if....? Ask them how they feel about yelling, spanking, time outs. Ask them about the experience they have with the particular age group of your children...ask about thoughts they have on that particular age. Call all references, especially past employers...find out criminal background and driving records. Find out what is going on in their life...is there turmoil? New school? New move? It will affect their mood with the children. Ask what latest medical training or education they have, ECE credits, first aid training. Make sure they are CPR certified...make sure you also have back-up daycare in case.

http://www.familywatchdog.us/ This website might be helpful, of course they might not be on there. I think you can look up names, I am not sure though. I just though this might be useful if you are interviewing individuals. Other than that, I don't know, sorry. I'm not a parent. Maybe see if the have Red Cross certifications? Make sure they know how to take care of babies, if they are choking?
