I live in a neighborhood full of "engineers". All their wives stay home with their oodles of kids (like I've always wanted to do). The salaries I've see posted in the newspaper for engineers are not extremely impressive. I know nothing about the field other than everyone around me is one of them and they must make good money. Please enlighten me. What kinds of engineers make the best money?

somewhere between 40,000 and ? But by the time you look at the amount of time and stress traded for money... Do they... I mean really if you are working 60 to 80 hours a week, going from project deadline to project deadline and making 60,000 before taxes are you making good money. What it really does is allows you access to more credit, just like the rest of the world. But then you are never there to enjoy it. That is why I quit. Found something better, doing something and being a part of something I enjoy. For more info check out my "Honest Opportunity" blog on yahoo360.

At the end of the day it just depends on what you feel makes you wealthy. I make a good living, I spend time with my family and I am a part of something that makes a difference.

Good luck

You would do well to brush up on your grammar, spelling and sentence structure. Engineers have to express themselves in writing. Your question is hard to answer since each company that hires MEs has its own salary structure, and rules about promotion. As a ROUGH guide, try the Federal GS Scales (engineers) as a guide. A Bachelor Degree engineer would probably be hired at the GS-7 to 9 level, a Master Degree engineer at the GS-9 to 11 level.

Good software engineers make good money, if they don't really like it, they'll have problems -- it's not something you can just do for the money, although the money comes.

Really good engineers try really hard to understand what their business does and how whatever they're buildling helps the company make money (best) or cut costs (not so good).

Good engineers are hard to find. The ones who are good usually end up making pretty good money after a few years experience.
