Pearl Jam, one of the greatest bands of all time, has many brilliant albums, but which is the best and why

The answer is simple. YIELD is without a doubt Pearl Jam's most cohesive, linear, and brilliant contribution to the world of rock music to this date. The linear message of duality between an introverted examination of self and an extroverted look at the impact of ourselves on the world socially, economically, and environmentally is amazing. YIELD is the only of Pearl Jam's albums to make such a concise and poignant message consistently throughout the entire album. As far as the music is concerned, it opens with one of Pearl Jam's best opening tracks, a fast punk-edged song called of Brain Of J. This is followed up by the masterful musicianship of Faithfull, No Way, and Given To Fly. It's tough to find a stretch of 3 songs on any of Pearl Jam's other albums that can showcase such a brilliant combination of songwriting and performing craft. Wishlist is next...A simple, slow song which beautifully contrasts the pace of the first 4 songs of the record. This leads into "Pilate", an upbeat song with an obscure message. Pilate then gives in to Do The Evolution, one of the most raw and agressive songs Pearl Jam has ever written. It takes a scathing sarcastic look at the damage we are all doing to ourselves and the world we live in. After the segue track, Red Dot, comes MFC, a tragically short song, and Low Light, a simply stunning beautiful ballad. Then comes In Hiding, one of the top 5 songs in all of Pearl Jam's catalogue. This song has everything. Change of pace, intelligent lyrics, catchy melodies, powerful imagery. Then you have Push Me, Pull Me....This song is Ed at his best lyrically. The lyrics are so powerful and so genius. I can think of precious few songs that have had a bigger impact on my life lyrically than this song. And finally, we end the album the only way you could....All Those Yesterdays. This song is so emotionally powerful and moving. And the ending solo is perfection defined. In fact, the whole album is absolutely perfect. You have everything Pearl Jam does best on it: Fast punk-laced riffs, powerful agression, amazing emotional ballads, lyrics that are somehow simultaneously passionate and on-topic but with that familiar sense of ambiguity that we've come to know and love about Ed's lyrics. No other musical work has been able to impact my mood, my feelings, and really, my life in general, than the album YIELD. It contains, in my opinion, 3 of Pearl Jam's 5 best songs in No Way, Faithfull, and In Hiding. All Those Yesterdays, MFC, Given To Fly, Low Light, and Do The Evolution are all either in the top 10 or close to it. If you are looking for one Pearl Jam album to really impact your life and to really become connected to, I without a doubt recommend YIELD and it's visual accompaniment, the DVD "Single Video Theory". It's an amazing eye-opening experience and you will not be disappointed.

Yield - hands down.
Some fantastic riffs throughout - funky drumming from Jack Irons, brilliant lyrics from Vedder and Ament. Let's just say Stone was on to something with this one. And McCready wrote Faithfull and Given to Fly in one session?
It's a great rollercoaster - and the second riff in All Those Yesterdays remains the greatest part of Pearl Jam history.

hmm
Ten is great because of all the great songs on it. Why Go, Even Flow, Alive, Jeremy, Deep and Oceans are just a few of the classics off Ten.
Their new album is great too. It covers the events of today like the war in Iraq. World Wide Suicide is a great song.
Pearl Jam rocks.

YIELD!!!!!!!!!!!

This is definately their best album due to the fact that from the first notes of Brain of J through the very end of All Those Yesterdays (and Hummus if you're hardcore), it just flows beautifully. The songs from start to finish almost take you on a journey of peace and enlightenment. When the phrase "music soothes the savage beast" was said... they had Yield in mind.

as much as i admire Ten I truthfully have a unusual love of Binaural distinctly the final 0.5 of it. It has a number of my renowned Pearl Jam songs consisting of Insignificance and Of the girl. you have some good without delay rock songs and a variety of of alternative ambient, melodic tunes that i think of they do nicely.

vitalogy had alot of great songs on it, but im most excited to listen to their new one. and the band seems to be happy with it, so to hear them play it live is awesome. its hard to really pick one album cause i love it all, ten is a great album too. but i have to go with the new self titled because it has the song gone, which i absolutely love.
