Mendelssohn's Concerto in E Minor is a piece for advanced violinists. I have played and practiced this piece for half a year and I recommend it for its style and variations within the piece (tempo, dynamics..etc) Also, I use Kretzer as a Methods book guide and Hrimaly as a Scale guide. Both books are paperback in yellow covers. You probably have seen them, they're famous for both violin and piano studies. Plus, I recommend Suzuki books if you haven't started yet. I have finished the whole Suzuki set but since your an advanced player, try looking at the 10th book and up. A really hard piece, and perhaps the hardest piece to master, is the Zigunerweisen by Sarasate. It has harmonics on the string, and plucking in between bowed notes. This piece is for the upmost, advanced player. No ordinary person can play this - the tempo is hard to muster at the 2nd half of the piece where there are 16th notes up in the 6-8th positions. But if you can master this piece, and play it well enough, you are a gifted violinist. Hope this helps!

Personally, I've always loved the Bach Double concerto for two violins.
