I just started cash register training and I'm not sure how to handle checks. I know what information I need to look at and write on the checks but I dont know what information (besides the check it's self) I need to keep from the customer. Hopefully someone can help. Thanks!

Usually stores want the customer's name, address and phone number on the check. You are not allowed to put their social security number on it, nor are you allowed to ask for it any more. Some places write their driver's license number on it, but not usually anymore. As far as what to keep from the customer, only the check. A check is a piece of paper that says they have money at the bank listed on the check, and that they are releasing the amount they wrote from their account, to the store's account. That is all a check is. Hope that helps.

I work as a cashier also... you need to keep the driver's license number and the expiration date. some employers like you to write the date of birth also.
