If the self does not exist, How can acts be linked with their results?
If when the deed is done, the doer is no more, who then will reap the fruits of the labor?

First one: I think it means if we don't do anything, how can we expect results? We have to believe in ourselves in order to see what will happen, whether it's bad or good. By actually performing the act, we will be able to see who we truly are inside, which shows that the "self does exist."
Second one: We shouldn't work too hard; otherwise, how are we going to enjoy our success? Some people are workaholic. By constantly working without any breaks, they end up harming themselves.
That's what i think it means... it may be wrong, but i guess i can learn from my mistakes.. lol

Completely dependent on the labor, however, chances are... everyone will reap the rewards. Whether the "doer" is still here is completely irrelevant. We are all linked together as one in one way or another so, we are all reaping the "rewards" and benefits of the labor of others as well as ourselves ;)

May be we are not 'The Self' but something else? We all belong to the common species of human beings, who have a soul, and who are made to choose between Virtue and Evil till the end of our lives.
