For submissions for acting/commercial gigs, you really only need a few types of headshots--commercial (friendly, smiling), theatrical (more serious looking) and one other (a character or 3/4 body shot).

If you can afford it, however, you can get different variations of each of the above--like different hairstyles, clothing, expressions, etc.

New York actors do not have headshot portofolios. Are you referring to modeling portfolios?
