Nicholais,
This is an answer I gave a few days ago,
Hope it helps somewhat.
"I hear you. I've been following the situation all day long, and no matter how I try to explain it, there is no answer to excuse Israel's reaction. I'm tired of everybody being afraid of saying something about it. Israel has this 'policy' that no man will be left behind, thus, when 2 Israeli soldiers were allegedly kidnapped in South Lebanon, Israel rode up with all 'our' warfare and started 'tactical' bombing, destroying Beirut (Capital city) and about 200 dead including 8 Canadians. In turn, the Hezbollah, an outlaw terrorist group, based in Lebanon, and allegedly backed by Iran and Syria, fired right back into Israel. And so it goes. Israel has threatened to escalate the war unless their 2 soldiers are returned. The G8 are in St. Petersburg at their meeting, all asking Israel to calm down, as has the UN, but nothing.... it seems rules apply to all but not to them:
Bottom line, fuel your car - barrel of oil will skyrocket tomorrow, and will probably reach US$100 in a months time.
Peace!"
And it is getting worst by the minute.
Helped?

It is also worthwhile to point out that Hezbollah is a terrorist group, but they have a very strong support in Lebanon. They are seen in the country probably more like a political party than a free floating terrorist group. That being said, Lebanon does have a separate government. Hezbollah has a good hold on Southern Lebanon though, and many skirmishes have taken place along the northern border of ISrael and the southern border of Lebanon. Hezbollah was actually created by Lebonese in the 80s while Israel was occupying southern Lebanon. They believed it to be an unjustified occupation and wanted them out. Since then they have fought back and forth on that border, even though Israel pulled all troops out in 2000. Well, as the first poster mentioned, Israel feels like it keeps getting pummelled by Hezbollah because they feel that they are behind some of the suicide bombings and other miscellanious mayhem in Israel. So when Hezbollah took several ISraeli military men captive a week or so ago, Israel said enough is enough. They started fighting with Hezbollah and it has escalated to where it is now. Israel is bombing the capitol of Lebanon, Beruit, and Hezbollah is firing rockets into Israel, mainly Haiffa because Hezbollah has limited military capacity, it only being a terrorist group and not an official government, and this is only as far as their rockets will go. A complication arises because Israel's bombing, trying to weaken Hezbollah's fighting capabilites, is also weakening the Lebonese government. This is why Israel is being criticized by many countries. They believe Israel is going above and beyond what they should rightfully be doing. The reaction does not meet the cause, Hezbollah capturing Israeli military men, say some.
To further complicate things, it is well known that Syria and Iran give money to Hezbollah to combat Israel. Many are worried that Israel beating up so much in Hezbollah could really anger Syria and Iran. Israel has hinted that it may actually send troops into southern Lebanon and occupy for awhile to fight Hezbollah. This could anger Syria and Iran very much also, not to mention the weakened government of Lebanon. The only thing that we know is that the tensions with all these groups and governments is only escalating daily as the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah escalates daily.
This is all of course, admittedly, an oversimplified answer mainly because its far too complicated for myself to completely understand.

Israel is currently fighting with Lebanon. Two soldiers were taken hostage by the Lebanese, sparking the latest military action by the Israeli army.
They believe the Hezbollah (political/religious group) officials are hiding weapons in residential areas, so they are bombing selected targets. Israel also believes Hezbollah is behind some of the suicide bombings in markets, busses, etc.
If you're a Christian, you believe that Abraham fathered both the Arabs and Jews, and that the two sides will never have lasting piece.
