Absolutely. As an employee you are a representation of the company you work for. You should represent what THEY want you to. After all, you're getting paid for it.
I'm curious as to why you say AmEx is one of the few companies that state this. I've never worked for a company that didn't explicitly state what its dress code was.

Look at it this way. Some individual or group had the idea for the company and put it together. They assembled everything necessary, including the financing, to make the business run. Then they offered you employment. It's their football, without them there would be no football, therefore they get to make the rules. If an employee doesn't like the rules, he needs to find a different game.

It really depends on the company. If it is a software company, maybe not. If it is a bank, since they deal with a lot of customers it should. The customers and the kind of work should what determine the dress code.

I guess so. It reflects on the company as well as its employees. I believe that you have to be appropriately dressed for the kind of work you do. If you dress too sloppy while working in Amex, cilents may feel that you don't take your job or them seriously.
Well, that's how i feel.

Sure, it's their decision. Don't fast food restaurants tell their employees what to wear, for that matter ALL restaurants?
Much love!!

Yes they should. They want to convey a good image to the consumers (the public) as well as their business partners.

yes, but i dont think its very necessary. cause the people that work there are usually 28+ years old right? so they wouldnt dress inappropriately. but i guess they are just cautious.
