Do it ASAP. When i was 17 I told my mom I was thinking about having sex with my boyfriend. The next week I was at the OBGYN getting birth control. I waited the 30 days for it to take affect and BLAME!! I lost my virginity and felt safe and confident I wouldn't get pregnant. I too also used a condom even though I was on birth control. Luckily too, once a condom broke and I didn't worry about getting pregnant. It is safe and I was on birth control for eight years.

If you are having sex you should be on birth control. However, you should still use condoms along with the birth control because BC does not prevent Sexually Transmitted Diseases. Birth Control help prevent pregnancy. And it is not 100% effective. Another benefit from taking birth control is that it will even out the cycles of your period. You should definately take it. Go to your doctor and they will prescribe the one that is right for you. Also, since you are now sexually active, along with the birth control come a yearly pap smear. This is extremely important to get every year because it screens for abnormalities and it can be helpful in detecting STDs as well.

That's really great that you're so careful with using a condom everytime, but like someone here said, they can fail (hey, anything can fail :) ) so it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to get a good back-up. Birth control pills are relatively safe, provided that you don't smoke and are under the age of 35 (I'm assuming you are if your mom's going to help you)

i recommend the nuva ring. compared to it, all other forms of bc are obsolete, (except mirena, but thats only if you have had a baby before). the nuva ring has the lowest side effects, is used once a month, not every day. easier to remember! its also the most effective form of birth control (except, again, for the mirena). You can get pregnant ANYTIME you have sex, no matter how protected you are, so unless you are sure that you're willing to risk having a child with this guy, i would think twice about sex until you are ready. talk to your doctor or go to a free clinic

Talk to your doctor (who will be prescribing this anyway), but birth control is generally very safe, since it only increases the hormones that are already present in your body.
Important things to keep in mind are that birth control does come with side effects such as tenderness etc. (hence talk to your doctor) and just because you will be protected from pregnancy isn't an excuse to stop using condoms because you can still get STD's.

not to discourage BC but Ive been on 3 different pills and the patch and every one I got yeast infections and with the patch I was nauseated all the time. Im so scared of birth control anymore. I guess its all about your body, I guess mine just doesnt like BC. I have heard the shot works but theres a risk of wieght gain. But if you dont care to gain 5-30 pounds I would get on that.

If you are fairly young it might be hard on your body to be on the pill or whatever. Here is another option. There is a foam you can put in you and then between that and the condom might work well for you.
If you become more active then consider the pill or the patch or a shot or an inplant.

birth control pills are pretty safe but should only be taken by some one mature enough to take them becuase you have to take them every day at the exact same time. Please get on them as soon as possible I had a baby at seventeen due to lack of birth control. It is hard trust me they are worth it. PS I have never had any problems with them other than missing them.

well, it's safe to a point. with some people, it messes up your reproductive system if you are on it to long. But if you don't want a baby then bc is the best way to go. NEVER GO ON DEPO though. IT messed me up BAD.

don't worry about having sex right now. it is so not important in life until your older. i'm 18 and i'm not a virgin but all sex has done is mess things up. its not important unles your really with that one special person. and it takes more than dating for a couple of months.
