Huh? What difference does it make to avoid chicken pox? That has nothing to do with Rubella (german measles). I would get a second opinion from another doctor. And you should definitely stay away from young children, who are the most likely to transmit Rubella. A simple bloodtest will tell you if you are resistant to Rubella - you may have had it as a child. It is very important to either get vaccinated if a doctor recommends it or avoid all risk of infection, as rubella infection during early pregnancy can cause major defects and comonly causes miscarriage.

From the March of Dimes site:

Can being vaccinated against rubella around the time of conception harm the fetus?
Babies of women who were inadvertently vaccinated around the time of conception are very unlikely to be harmed by the vaccine. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), along with researchers from Great Britain, Sweden and Germany, studied nearly 700 women who were vaccinated from three months before to three months after they conceived. None of these women’s babies had birth defects that resembled the ones that rubella causes. However, the CDC continues to recommend postponing conception for 28 days after vaccination because there is theoretically a very small risk of fetal harm.

Please seek another opinion from another doctor if you are not happy with the info givn by the first doctor. This applies for ALL of your questions during pregnancy. Make sure you understand everything and ask for more explanation if necessary.

if your spouse has not at all had rubella, then she desires the shot. Rubella for the period of being pregnant is amazingly risky for a arising toddler. in the time of the 1st trimester- those first severe 3 months, it is deadly to the toddler. At terrific, it ought to reason some severe beginning defects. i think you like a wholesome toddler, and a wholesome spouse. they'd no longer vaccinate her on an identical time as she became into pregnant the 1st time, on account that's a stay virus vaccine- basically as risky to a arising or newborn toddler via fact the ailment would be. So that's terrific in the event that they wait until eventually the toddler is older, and supply the vaccination in the previous she turns into pregnant a 2d time. that's necessary, if she does not have antibodies to make her immune already. via fact the physician is recommending it, i think she does not. The physician has her terrific pastimes, and nicely as any unborn toddler's terrific pastimes at coronary heart. So please, she could take the shot. wholesome mom, wholesome toddler- and that's rather what i'm beneficial you like maximum of all.

Avoid anyone who is sick, but don't panic because the Measles is virtually nonexistant. After the baby is born, you will get a MMR vaccine at the hospital before you go home. A LOT of women get are not rubella immune and do just fine. It's really not a big deal, please don't worry.
