If you recall elementary science, this is the composition: cells make up tissues, tissues make up organs, organs make up systems, systems make up organisms. The brain is part of a body system, meaning it's an ORGAN. (And an organs is made up of tissues, which are made up of cells.)

what is brain matter then?
brain tissue, brain stem.. basan ganglia, blood vessels, brain cells...is it only brain matter when it is out of the head?
