It doesn't matter. I do just in case the tampon leaks. It saves embarrassment.

On heavy days, i usually use a pantiliner just in case it leaks, but on the lighter days if you change the tampon often enough there should be no need for a pantiliner. Ultimately it's up to you and what's most comfortable for you.

It could help. No matter how light your flow, if you allow the tampon to get completely saturated, the upper part of the string will have blood on it.
Using a pantiliner is cheaper than buying more tampons so you can change them before they get completely saturated. I would do it.

If your just starting out using tampons, it would be safer to use pantiliners until your confident that there won't be any leakages.

That depends on how heavy your flow is. If the tampon is not holding your flow then maybe you need sanitary napkins instead. I use tampons and pantyliners simultaneously for added protection.
