What is the difference between the original Nintendo DS and the new Nintendo DS lite?

which one is better? can you tell me the pros and cons?

{ do not know very much about video games but my brother~9 years old really wants to get one. We dont know which one he should get}

For your little brother I would recommend Nintendo DS based on the ads because Nintendo DS lite is more for people who don't like typical games like shooting each other and stuff that 9 year olds typically like.

Nintendo ds Lite is far better than the Reg Nintendo DS.
the Lite is more attractive, has a nice white-gloss cover, kinda like the ipods do, and it looks very nice compared to the DS and the PSP.
the screen is definitely much brighter so you can see more color in your games.
It is much lighter and it feels and looks much better to hold a LIte than the regular DS.
You get a better looking DS Lite, better screen brightness, and for the same price.

The DS Lite is smaller (though the screens are the same size), the backlight is better, and the battery is supposed to last longer. Otherwise, I don't see much of a difference.

The DS lite is the better choice. It's smaller, lighter, and MUCH brighter. You have better control with it and don't have to worry about "whoops, accidently hit the off button instead of start". It really is the better choice.

its just that the "lite' is going to be easier to travel. like its going to be skinnier and not going to weigh as much. and the video game people just want to get our money...
and they arent going to be much different. the lite is just going to be a little bit more high tech.
