I think it's because we're so used to violent movies in which people get bumped off all the time. Movie animal deaths are less usual, so we get choked up about it.
I don't really get the part about priests. I mean, I'm not anti religious, but other people are just as important....?

People know that when a person dies in a movie it's not real -- but they are not subjected to a lot of animal deaths on the screen, and they have probably lost animals they have loved, therefore, it invokes an emotional response.

Yes. I think it is because most people see animals as innocents. Humans, even those who have devoted their life to God, are still not innocent. Also, humans usually have caused the situation in which the death occurs. So the animal probably didn't have anything to do with it.

true.. but that's not just in the movies... when a pet dies, that pet is also a companion, a friend to some, and part of a family to others and they take it to heart when they lose them. But funny enough yeah I see it all the time but more so in real life than I've noticed on TV or in the movies... interesting though.

Crazy huh? What about the guy in Florida (true story) who got arrested for taking turtle eggs (not cool, for sure.) His defense was, since the turtles weren't out of their shells yet, they were not alive (sound familiar?) Anyway, the judge threw the book at the guy!! Why does it work for human abortions and not animal abortions??
Dunno...
Much Love!!

I'm guilty. I tend to have more sympathy for animals than humans. If I see a man getting beat down in the street, i keep walking, but if I see someone beating a dog, I get right up in their face and ask them if they would like me to whoop them like that.
I have no idea why I'm like that

Why would you imply that the life of a priest is worth more than any other human?

The death of a priest doesn't bother me at all. It's a very good thing, really.

I have said that myself too and felt that way also. I think I see animals as innocent like children.
