I can see the positive & negative sides of this issue - if health care is under Federal control then everyone could get help for free (paid for by tax dollars - not truly free) regardless of race, income level, health problem, insurance, etc. Whether you are homeless or Bill Gates your health care would be free! The down side would be that doctor's salaries would be regulated and they may not want to work as hard or see as many patients since they'll get paid the same no matter how much they work each day. So what do you all think? For or against?

I am against it. Just take a very close look at countries that have nationalized (socialized) health care. Start with Canada since it is close to us and go over to Europe and look at their health care systems. It is no secret why so many people come to the U.S. from Canada for treatment.

Typically, I try not to be very serious when I answer these questions but here, the answer is simple, nationalized health care would suck and wouldn't change anything. Rich people (I dare say like like me) would still get the the best health care, and just allowing anyone with any medical condition to get the best medical care western medicine has to offer would bankrupt the country. Besides, I do not think I or anyone else should have to pay to treat someone who is a dumbass and has made bad health decisions, whether it be smoking, doing crack, being a fat ***/not exercising and getting diabetes, etc. I'll pay for my issues, you pay for yours.

You're right, too, about the MD's salaries, it would be very demoralizing...

On top of the quality of doctors going down, due to the lack of reward for hard work, everyone goes to the hospital for every little scratch (like the kind Kerry got his purple hearts for). People wait for months to see a doctor in some places. We have the best doctors in the world in the U.S. because the capitalistic system. How many great minds would study a different field if you take the reward away? Sure, some would stay, but not most.

Why not have nationalized lawn care, and accountants, and lawyers, while we are at it.

If you want to see what would happen, look at our public school system.

Knowing what I pay each month for health care makes me say yes to nationalized health care, but I look at what's happening in Canada where people can wait forever to get the right treatment and other bad situations with National health care.

I work for doctors and do NOT think it's a good idea. There are already plans in place for health care to be provided to anyone who needs it. Medicine is a different issue!

Every day I have to deal with lazy SOBs who milk our office for all they can get and the state pays for all of it! Some of our elderly patients have too much integrity to ask for help so they just suffer.

I'm all for providing health care but did you know that many of the "welfare recipients get botox, lipo and massive drugs" at your (and my) expense???

Makes me sick

This is socialism, pure and simple. You are exactly right about the incentive to work. This is just one more example of the Federal government paying off the American public to relinquish even more liberties to them in exchange for a treat. Find one thing regarding health care in any way whatsoever in the first twenty-five congresses. It's not there. Because the government knew it wasn't their business.

against. Looking at the track record of countries that do this I think it is bad news. Besides why should hardworking people work their butts off just to pay more taxes for the lazy jerk down the road that doesn't want to get a job cuz its too much work. I think in the long run you would see it isn't going to save you that much money.

I'm for it, but I think we would have to be more like Canada and have taxes so high on the things that can make us ill health, ie. cigarettes,( which are $10 a pack in Canada) fast food, alcohol, anything fat and not good for you....to help pay for the health care and cut down on the country's consumption of unhealthy items.

I think it is needed but I think the insurance companies would make more of a stink about it cause they have everyone scared into thinking if you don't have health insurance you will lose your home if you get sick. It's terrible to live like that.I think the Dr would still get paid good and since all Dr would have to take it they know they would get paid.
