A Master's thesis is MUCH shorter in length than a PhD dissertation. In the humanities, Master's theses are most often under 100 pages, while PhD dissertations are most often well over 200 pages.

A Master's thesis can involve interpretation and/or synthesis of data and theoretical material, while a PhD dissertation requires original theory, research, or argumentation.

A Master's thesis is usually written in a relatively brief period of time (under a year), while a PhD dissertation often takes much longer.

There are two main criterions: the difference between a Masters and a PhD and the difference between British and U.S. university studies. Most universities in North America call a PhD a dissertation and the masters a thesis, while most British universities call the PhD the thesis and the masters the dissertation. Some universities also use the word ‘dissertation’ for masters research and ‘thesis’ for doctorate research. Hope that helps,

In U.S. Universities, it is so.

Thesis & Dissertation: Both are written discourses on a given subject. Sometimes they are interchangeable.

In THESIS, Original Research is involved.

In DISSERTATION, you present a discourse based on what info. you've gathered on the subject with your thoughts on it.

Nitty gritty: Isn't it?
